Demo Reel Blues.appleloop

Updating my demo reel is like going to the dentist’s office for a cleaning…It would really benefit me to do it every six months, but I really, really don’t want to. And sometimes it can be painful. Bleeding around the gums is to be expected.

If I had the cash, I would totally pay someone to do it. But then I probably wouldn’t need a reel if I had enough cash to pay someone to update mine…

Face Recognition Software is Pure Entertainment

Picasa is a pretty awful piece of software, but it’s free. It also comes with some pretty fantastic Face Recognition software built-in. Here are a few things I’ve come across:

1. It’s so good, it even detects faces from drawings.

The resemblance is uncanny!

2. It will detect your facial structure throughout the years—this is me about two decades ago, and it still got it right.

What a goofy lookin’ kid.

3. It’ll creep you out by making undeniable comparisons with your family members.

Picasa thinks I’m my Mom. That’s pretty heavy, Doc.

Face Recognition and Lightroom

Now that Lightroom 4 is out with support for HD video playback and GPS-enabled maps, the only feature from Aperture/iPhoto that I miss is Face Recognition. Lightroom 4 is fantastic, and still the best and most professional digital photo organizer and developer available, but I also use it for my personal photos (well technically they’re all personal, because I’m not professional, but you know what I mean—Artsy Fartsy vs. Grandma’s Birthday).

After keywording photos for two days, and only making a small dent in the 40,000 images, I started looking for an alternative. I found a nice write-up online about a work around for integrating Face Recognition in to Lightroom. Here’s the plan:
